Enhancing Accessibility for Sign Language Users
The project aims to address communication challenges for individuals with hearing impairments by developing a mobile app. It will support various sign languages, include a real-time translator, and integrate gamification for enhanced learning. Drawing from relevant research, the project offers a detailed prototype, identifies potential limitations, and outlines future improvements to ensure ongoing accessibility and user satisfaction. Overall, it seeks to provide an innovative solution to improve communication for those with hearing difficulties.
Due to the global diversity of sign languages, individuals with hearing disabilities face significant communication challenges. Existing mobile applications like Handtalk, Jeenie, and ASL Pocket Sign offer affordability and accessibility but are limited by a restricted vocabulary, inconsistent content, and underutilized multimedia. The absence of suitable communication technologies exacerbates these challenges, underscoring the urgent need for an innovative solution. Our proposed sign language application targets individuals globally, both beginners and proficient users, aiming to provide effective communication tools and enhance sign language skills for a diverse audience.
